Rototo

ROTOTO’s socks are produced in Japan’s Nara Prefecture, the country’s largest sock-manufacturing region, particularly in Koryocho and nearby cities such as Yamatotakada, Kashiba and Gose. The area has a long history of textile craftsmanship dating back to the 17th century, and industrial sock production began in 1910 when a local man brought a weaving machine from the U.S. Over time, as traditional textile weaving declined, sock making evolved into the region’s new industry. With roots in this rich heritage, ROTOTO values close collaboration with factory craftsmen who uphold these traditions. Their production process begins with selecting or developing the right yarns, then choosing the appropriate knitting machines—ranging from vintage non-computerized models to advanced hi-tech ones—based on the material and purpose of each design. Through the combination of suitable materials, machines, and craftsmanship, ROTOTO aims to preserve their cultural legacy while innovating for the future of Japanese sock production.
